Leisure Centre survey results welcomed by campaign group

The Save Shawwood Greenspace Group has welcomed the results of the survey by Paul Masterton and Jackson Carlaw.

The group was set up in a bid to stop any development on Shawwood park.

Kirsti McGinlay of the Group said: ”We welcome the results of the survey by Jackson Carlaw and Paul Masterton which proves that people who live here don’t want it built on our parks.

“They demonstrated common sense when they actually sent the survey to homes that would be affected by building at Shawwood or Broom unlike the council who managed to conclude a consultation with the majority of residents still in the dark.

“Save Shawwood Greenspace held a public meeting in November which over 300 residents attended and only one attendee was in favour of the build, these numbers speak volumes.

“We are and will continue to be tireless in our efforts to save Shawwood from any development.”

Kirsti continued: “In a time of concern over global warming, now more than ever we need to concentrate on maintaining the only remaining urban green spaces that are left throughout our district of East Renfrewshire and across the country.

“Not only do these spaces help reduce air pollution next to a busy main road but it also provides a natural open leisure space for all the residents”.
