And that she then assaulted PC Ann Marie Whyte, biting her and injuring her.

The court heard that others had been involved in a disturbance at the address in Smyllum Road. Someone was shouting from the top floor, and they spoke to him, but the Nugent and others, under the influence of alcohol, approached them in an aggressive manner and began shouting and swearing.

“As they attempted to place handcuffs on her, she bit the female police officer,” said depute fisal Ziad Hassan.

“The officer suffered bruising to her leg but, thankfully, did not require any hospital treatment.”

Sheriff Nikola Stewart made it clear that she was not calling for background reports on “this lady with pages of convictions who bites an officer”.

An agent said Nugent had “exploded with anger” and the police took her to the ground.

“The police officer’s leg was at her head, for some unexplainable reason,” he said, adding that Nugent had made a complaint to the police.

Nugent was jailed for eight months for that, and three months for failing to appear at court on another matter.
