WE all like to do our bit to save the planet but one Clydesdale website is going one step further by saving countless items from ending up in landfill.

The Lanark Freegle website was set up in 2008 with the purpose of helping people either looking for or giving away items which they had no further use for and would otherwise end up in the tip.

Since then it has grown year on year with the number steadily growing to over 1,500 members with more sign-ups weekly.

David Morison took over running the site a number of years ago and is delighted with the response from locals.

He said: “It’s a great service for everyone.

People can see what is available for sale or they can request a particular item.

“Apart from obviously anything illegal, we don’t allow people to sell their pets or for any swaps to take place.

“But, apart from that, you can put anything you like on the site.

“The main thing is that we aim to keep things out of landfill.

“So, if people can reuse items which are deemed no use to others, then it can benefit both parties, as well as the environment.”
