Kirkmuirhill’s Margaret Weir is a quiet hero
The very modest and unassuming care asssistant at Lesmahagow’s Bankhead Nursing Home is one of those legions of folk who do what seems an everyday job very quietly but very well indeed, neither asking for nor receiving any recognition.
However, the family of one of the home’s residents felt that Margaret’s dedication to their loved one just couldn’t go on without a very special ‘thank you’ being said.

Hide AdThis is exactly what happened, much to Margaret’s surprise, at a ceremony at the home when the Kirkmuirhill woman was officially named as a Happy Hero as her proud colleagues looked on.
The Happy Hero Awards are run by a charitable foundation, asking the public to nominate someone who has overcome personal hardship to not only keep cheerful but to bring some happiness into the lives of others.
The family of Bankhouse resident Margaret Mullen thought that her favourite carer Margaret Weir more than qualified for this award and they presented the Happy Hero certificate and a bouquet at the happy gathering.
The person who nominated her was Mrs Mullen’s daughter, Catherine Harden.
