Staff at East Renfrewshire Council recently donated 233kg of food to the East Renfrewshire Foodbank.

A range of non-perishable tinned and dried foods were donated, and will be used to provide emergency food to those in crisis in the local community over the festive season.

The food was collected during recent employee workshops held by the Corporate and Community Services department. Staff were encouraged to donate as much as they could and help give back to those in the community who may not be as fortunate as themselves over the Christmas period.

Caroline Innes, East Renfrewshire Council’s Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Corporate and Community Services said: “East Renfrewshire Foodbank provide a fantastic service to residents in our community.

“I am pleased that our staff have been able to provide this generous donation, which I hope will provide some of the assistance required by people at this time of year when it is needed the most.”

Stan Esson, from East Renfrewshire Foodbank, added: “We are always delighted to receive donations, especially in the run-up to Christmas when we know money will be tight for a lot of people. The collection provided by the council staff is hugely appreciated and will help out those most in need throughout this winter.”

East Renfrewshire Foodbank aims to provide a minimum three day supply of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to the people of East Renfrewshire who are in crisis throughout the whole year.
