Keith and Jenny Darroch celebrate Diamond Wedding Anniversary

CELEBRATING their Diamond Wedding Anniversary, Keith Darroch revealed the secret behind his and Janet’s (Jenny’s) sixty years of wedded bliss.

“At the start I told her straight that I would make ALL the major decision and she could make the minor ones.

“Funnily enough, there’s never been a single major decision made in the past sixty years. I wonder why that is?”

What they’ve always described as a “mixed marriage” - he’s a Lanarkian, Jenny from Carluke via Newmains - began on March 19, 1953 at Carluke St John’s Church, the service being conducted by the Rev John Miller.

Most of Keith’s working life was involved helping run the famous Lanark family shop businesses, although he did `do his bit’ in the RAF during National Service.

It was there that he discovered a talent for shooting, winning the Suez Canal Trophy on station in Egypt and going on to represent the Air Force in national competitions.

“I didn’t do much actual service during National Service; it was mostly shooting contests for me!” he quipped.
