A FORMER pupil of Williamwood High school is currently wowing art lovers in East Kilbride with an exciting, new exhibition.
The preview of Julie Arbuckle’s first solo show was last Friday at the East Kilbride Arts Centre and runs throughout this month.
Julie’s talent for art was first noticed at Williamwood where she received help and encouragement by art teacher Mabel Halliday and the school’s art department under the direction of principal teacher Maggie Coggans.
The talented lass who hailed from Clarkston, graduated with a BA first class Honours from the University College of Northampton and went on to exhibit and sell her work through local galleries in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.
But soon Julie was drawn back to her native land and the Highlands — which feature in so many of her paintings.
The new exhibition is the result of hard work over the course of the last six months and looks to capture the essential spirit of Scotland’s wild places and its unpredictable weather.
Exciting and invigorating, Julie’s work has already sold well since opening the show and this southsider’s star is on the ascendency.
