A SOUTHSIDE retirement home has raised a staggering £3,500 by holding a Jubilee fête
Locals turned out in their hundreds event at Crookfur Retirement Estate on Saturday, June 2 to rub shoulders with the likes MP Jim Murphy, MSP Ken Macintosh and Lord Povost Alastair Carmichael of East Renfrewshire council.
Also in attendance were Deputy Lieutenant of the county of East Renfrewshire Patricia Thomson and celebrity designer John Amabile.
Many donated their time to make the day a success and major retailers such as House of Fraser, Matalan, Asda, Waitrose and a host of local businesses supported the event.
It was a day full of shopping for the grown-ups and a great deal of activities for the younger folk including a bouncy castle, pony rides, a petting zoo and two-man water walkers.
The money raised on the day will go to the Retail Trust in Scotland to help improve the lives of the residents who live at the estate and to fund vital services such as counselling, legal and debt advice, hardship grants, course funding and retirement housing.
Nigel Rothband, chief executive of Retail Trust, said: “A big thank you for the tremendous efforts by all the businesses, staff, volunteers and residents and their families which created a real community event to celebrate the Queen’ Jubilee.
“The money raised will greatly benefit those in retail and the fête helped to raise awareness of the retirement estate and all the other services Retail Trust offers”.
