Two carers from the Glasgow area have been recognised at the Meallmore Staff Awards winning top accolades for going the extra mile to deliver high standards of care to elderly and vulnerable people.

Meallmore Ltd opened the doors of its first nursing home for the elderly in 1987, marking this year as their 30th anniversary and a special occasion for the company, the 2017 awards and the staff.

Linda McCulloch, from Mearns House Care Home, won the Excellence in Support Services category, while William Cawley, from The Oaks Care Home, won the Meaningful Activities category. The awards recognise outstanding performances by those who provide support to Meallmore teams and residents across Scotland.

Linda joined Mearns House when it first opened, as the hotel services supervisor and continues to thrive in her role. The judges said Linda embodies Meallmore’s values and exceeds the expectations of her residents, always with a smile on her face.

William has been praised for the positive atmosphere he creates at The Oaks. He organises person-centred activities and ensures they are always meaningful for the individual, and makes it a priority to encourage and involve all residents in his activities.

The ceremony, which took place at Perth Race Course on Thursday, October 5, celebrates the positive impact staff make to people’s lives on a daily basis. Nominations come from residents, family and friends, visiting professional and fellow staff members. Winners receive a certificate, trophy and an iPad for their hard work.

Speaking about her win, Linda said “It’s fantastic and so exciting. It’s a fabulous win for everyone at the home and was lovely to hear all of the comments from the judges. Meallmore is a fantastic company to work for, I love my job, and winning this award is going to make me work harder so I can come back next year.”

William added, “I’m shocked, as I didn’t expect to win! I’m delighted for the team at the home and to have been nominated, but we’re just doing our job, so this win is as much for the residents as it is for the team at The Oaks. This award will make us keep improving everything we do for the residents.”

Gerry Hennessey, managing director of Meallmore Ltd said: “I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Linda and William for their well-deserved wins and thank both for all their hard work over the last year. Our care home teams are instrumental in ensuring residents not only receive the best level of care and support, but enjoy a good quality of life. These awards are an extremely important way of recognising their efforts and hard work.

“This year, all award nominees will also receive a certificate, in recognition of their hard work and achievements. I’d like to thank all our staff for their continued support and efforts.”
