Latest government figures reveal that 1 in 4 adults are obese and it is estimated that by 2034, this figure will increase to 1 in 3. Over 60% of the population of Glasgow is overweight or obese and Laura says her new role has never been more important.

Laura joined Slimming World in May 2017 as she was getting married the following September.

Whilst not obese she hated having pictures taken and was dreading all the attention on the big day. This keen slimmer read that at Slimming World you could eat as much free foods as your appetite would allow and not just fruit and veg but also unlimited pasta, rice and potatoes. As a real foodie Laura can’t wait to share her passion for Food Optimising – and never going hungry- with her new members.

Stepping onto the scales at the end of the first group was nerve wracking says Laura. She was reassured by her consultant that her weight would never be discussed and she was encouraged to set her own personal target for weight loss.

Laura was inspired by the new members who had food optimised 100% and lost 5,6,7 or more lbs in one week and was delighted when she lost 4 and a half lbs. the group members soon became friends to share recipes with and gain support from-and the support was amazing. Laura admits to feeling upset after her first gain.

She said: “Just as I was about to leave one of the members who helped out at the group kindly offered to grab me a coffee and sat me down in group so I could figure out where I had gone wrong – I am so glad I stayed- from then on the weight just fell off.”

The wedding day was the very best day of Laura’s life. It was an absolutely beautiful sunny day in Glasgow (we don’t get many of them so they were very lucky) and the bride felt amazing in her dress, no hiding from the camera for this slinky slimmer. Her confidence had rocketed and she beamed coming down the aisle, posing for photos on the steps outside Oran Mor for all of Great Western road and its passers-by to see.

The newlyweds honeymooned in Croatia shortly after the big day and the new bride had already made the decision not to follow the plan during this time. It was selfies galore for the newlyweds as they documented the best holiday of their lives. Going back to group after 3 weeks off Laura miraculously she gained only 3.5lbs and was over the moon.

She has managed to maintain over Christmas, birthdays and still does to this day. Better still as a target member Laura can attend group for free and still gat and give fabulous recipe ideas and advice.

The change that Slimming World has made in Laura’s life came as a huge surprise. It has given her a greater confidence and a more positive outlook on life. Now she has decided to take the plunge and become a Slimming World consultant because of believe 100% in the plan and because she herself is testament to that. She wants to help others achieve their dreams of becoming the person they have always wanted to be.
