Abortion midwives win appeal

TWO midwives involved in a legal wrangle over their right to oppose any participation in abortions have won a court battle.

Concepta Wood (52) from Clarkston and Mary Doogan (58) from Garrowhill had previously lost their case against NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Appeal court judges have overturned that that result, that their human rights had been breached, and the two midwives can now refuse any participation in abortions at any stage.

Both nurses work at the Southern General Hospital.
