Glasgow Taxis’ drivers are dancing for joy as it proudly announces sponsorship of the 2016 World Irish Dancing Championships.
The organisation, which operates two thirds of black cabs in Glasgow, has supplied a special World Irish ‘Dancemobile’ to mark the event which will be touring the city during the seven day competition.
The ‘Olympics’ of Irish dance will see elite dancers from every corner of the globe converge on Glasgow and battle it out to become “Champion of the World”.
Stephen Flynn, Vice Chair of Glasgow Taxis Ltd, said: “We’re very proud to be supporting this year’s World Irish Dancing Championships and we are looking forward to welcoming the world’s best dancers to Glasgow.
“Our Irish ‘Dancemobile’ has had a great reception so far with people coming up to our drivers and asking about the event, and we wish the best of luck to all dancers competing throughout the week.”
The Championships, which are hosted by the world’s premiere Irish dance organisation, An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha, mark the 46th anniversary of the World Irish Dancing Championships at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall from 20 -27 March 2016.
Barbara Blakey, Marketing Chairperson for An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha, said: “We have thousands of people coming into Glasgow for this event who are all very excited to be greeted by the Irish ‘Dancemobile’.
“The Worlds is a fantastic competition with a rich heritage and deep roots in Irish culture; there are a lot of ties to Ireland here in Scotland also, so Glasgow is the perfect place for us to showcase the best dancing in the world. Thanks to Glasgow Taxis the event has been made possible.”
The championships are expected to attract in excess of 5,000 competitors in solo, céilí, figure- choreography and dance drama categories in a variety of age-groups.
