The Glasgow Phoenix Choir is hosting an open night to help them find the next generation of choir members.
Have you always wanted to sing - All in the April Evening; Scots Wha Hae; Battle Hymn of the Republic; and Do you Hear the People Sing? - Well, this could be your moment in the spotlight.
Singers of all types and skills levels are sought to join the choir, though they are particularly keen to attract sopranos, tenors and basses.
They are also hoping to encourage spouses and partners to join them as associate members.
The open rehearsal will give you the opportunity to see how the choir works and will include a buffet when you can meet choir members and ask questions.
The Glasgow Phoenix Choir is a mixed voice choir, which has just begun its 66th season of music-making. The choir is very busy and each year undertakes about 20 concerts in a wide variety of venues raising money for charities.
Their repertoire is varied and includes both sacred and secular music, ancient and modern. With an exciting season ahead, They are about to record a postcard CD in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice.
They will of course be singing in the usual Glasgow Royal Concert Hall Christmas and Spring concerts.
The choir travels throughout Scotland and later this month will be visiting Strathpeffer, Elgin and the Isle of Skye. Their two Glasgow Royal Concert Hall events this season will feature guests, old and new.
Choir rehearsals take place in the Adelaide Centre on Monday evenings (7.30 to 9.30 pm) during the season. Free street parking is available close to the centre.
Anyone interested should be able to sing (oddly enough), but do not need to be able to read music. You should be a friendly and enthusiastic singer who is seeking a new opportunity and who will be prepared to commit to a range of undertakings each season.
All new members must undertake a short audition with the choirs conductor. You will be given the support of a mentor from the choir section that you join. Visit the website or search for the choir on Facebook and YouTube.
Open night auditions take place on October 3 at The Adelaide’s Church Centre, 209, Bath Street, Glasgow, between 7.30 to 9.30 pm.
