MSP informs Holyrood of rat problem

More than a hundred concerned residents attended a public meeting organised by Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows with representatives of North Lanarkshire Council at Brannock High last month.

Mr Lyle has now committed to contacting various council officers and national organisations including the Scottish Government over the issue.

He has also written to Michael Matheson, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, over the non-attendance of Network Rail at the meeting, which caused significant anger amongst local people.

Mr Lyle said: “At the public meeting in Brannock High, I committed to informing the Cabinet Secretary about the non-attendance of Network Rail.

“I have now done so in the hope that he will inform his UK Government counterpart about the disregard which was shown towards local people.

In addition, I have also written to Paul Jukes, the chief executive of North Lanarkshire Council, asking for local people to be surveyed about the rat problem and for information on reimbursement of fees for pest control to be issued.

“Similarly, I have written to Isabelle Boyd, the assistant chief executive for Education, to ask that she speak with head teachers throughout the area about supporting our children and young people to reduce litter and food waste being thrown.

“I have also contacted each head teacher myself, to request a similar line of action.

“Following this I have written to all residents who attended the public meeting at Brannock High to keep them updated and I shall continue to work in partnership with Marion Fellows and others including North Lanarkshire Council on this issue of importance to local people.”
