East Renfrewshire tops Scottish recycling chart

More than 67 per cent of household waste is now being recycled across East Renfrewshire '“ the highest rate of all local authorities.

The latest figures were released by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and cover the period from January to December 2017.

With residents in East Renfrewshire recycling almost 33,000 tonnes of waste in 2017, the council achieved a 6 per cent increase on the 2016 results.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, Convener for Environment, said; “This is a fantastic achievement for East Renfrewshire and shows once more that we are leading the way when it comes to encouraging our residents to recycle more. We all know increased recycling is good for the environment, but it is also helping the council to save significantly on landfill costs.

“A huge thank you to all our residents for helping to make East Renfrewshire a cleaner and greener place for all to enjoy.”
