The Commonwealth Games countdown has begun at Merrylee and Our Lady of the Annunciation primaries.

With help from Active Schools coordinator Aiden Byrne, Merrylee arranged its own Games event recently, and extended an invite to neighbouring school OLA.

All 640 children competed in events including cross country racing and hockey, with parents and staff ensuring that the sports day went smoothly — and a great time was had by all.

It’s the first of many joint efforts, as Merrylee pupils focus on a year-long theme of global citizenship.
