EXTRA teachers are to be drafted in by Glasgow city council in a bid to improve exam results.
The authority is investing £500,000 to give 26 of the city’s 30 secondary schools another full-time member of staff.
Head teachers will be allowed to use the staff member as they see fit, with the focus on helping pupils to attain better pass rates.
GCC leader Gordon Matheson said: “Education is a key priority for this administration and we have decided to recruit an additional 26 teachers with the sole remit of raising attainment.
“We need to keep an absolute focus on the driving up of the quality of teaching and learning in our schools and that is already bearing fruit in our exam results...our expectation is that attainment will continue to rise”.
Funding has been secured until March next year, when the success of the project will be assessed.
