THE leader of Glasgow city council has hit out at the SNP government over plans to cut college budgets.

Funding for Scottish colleges is to be cut by 8.5 per cent this year, and the move has received criticism from students and academics.

Councillor Gordon Matheson met with the chairs of Glasgow colleges this week, and said: “It is outrageous that the SNP government is slashing college budgets at the very time we need colleges the most.

“For many people colleges are the only effective route into a job so to strip away that opportunity for so many young people will have a devastating effect”.
