Hutchesons’ Grammar pupil is World Champion

Pupil Myles Macaulay has won the under 12 piano competition at the ‘All Ireland Fleadh’ in Drogheda last month - making him the under 12 world champion of traditional Irish piano.

Myles saw of 14 competitors including three from the USA and one from Japan, and sailed through two qualifying competitions to get to the finals. At just nine-years-old, Myles also came third in piano accordian.

Myles and his eight-year-old sister April are members of a 20-strong under 12 group who came first in its category for the first time in 14 years.

Myles is currently working towards completing his Grade 6 piano exam.
