PUPILS at Hutchesons’ grammar school and Shawlands Academy were all aboard the Tax Justice Bus this week.
The bus — a Christian Aid initiative currently touring the UK — visited the southside on Tuesday to let pupils find out more about tax dodging, and how it affects poorer people in the UK and in developing countries.
The charity and supporter Church Action are campaigning for the government to end financial secrecy, and are encouraging people to tick for tax justice by signing a petition.
S4 Martin Chirrey explained what he’d learned from a visit to the bus, commenting: “£35 billion in tax was avoiding in the UK in 2011. This money could be used to make a massive difference”.
