Eastwood Juvenile U19 players are throwing all they’ve got behind a national charity - Pancreatic Cancer Action.

The club are supporting their coach, David Fitzpatrick, who is also the founder of Action 4 Patricia and Paul, a fund which aims to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and to support research into the disease.

David said: “I am so pleased that Eastwood Juveniles are supporting the cause. Sadly, I am all too familiar with the devastating impact of pancreatic cancer. Our family have lost two special people both our beloved mother and my brother, Paul, to this disease.

“We raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Action because they have taken awareness of pancreatic cancer so far including making medical professionals more aware of the symptoms. I only wish our family GP had more knowledge of it whilst treating my mother and brother who was diagnosed 15 months after Mum who died within a month of being diagnosed.”

And in support of such a worthy charity the club are holding a family fun day, charity football match and an dance at night on Sunday, May 29 at Giffnock North Football Social Club, Braidbar Rd, Giffnock.

Ali Stunt, Founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action, said: “We are very grateful to David and all who support the cause, for giving their time to support Pancreatic Cancer Action.

“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals to help us continue our vital work. These funds enable us to continue research into early diagnosis and raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.”

Anyone is welcome to pop along to the Family Fun Day which will have a bungee run, inflatables, sumo wrestling, a selction of craft stalls with a wide range of goodies on offer and the chance to polish off a burger - or two, from the barbecue. Even the wee ones are being catered for with some smaller bouncy castles and face painters.

The evening event starts at 8pm and will run until midnight with music provided by the Jimmy Oakley Band. Tickets costing £5 per person are available on the door at the Giffnock North Football Social Club.
