May I take this opportunity to wish everyone the compliments of the season.
This is an appropriate time of the year to highlight the generosity of the people of East Renfrewshire and the help that they give to those less fortunate than themselves.
As provost it is a privilege to meet many of the individuals and organisations who go the extra mile to help and support the most vulnerable in our society, for example The East Renfrewshire Warriors (SupERkids) who recently received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for working with children with additional support needs.
My thoughts are also with all those who may be facing difficulties and challenges in their lives, I am keen that we all use this season of goodwill as an inspiration for the future.
I am particularly proud that our council has agreed to take 50 refugee families who have been traumatised by the recent troubles in the middle east, and welcome them to East Renfrewshire. I am confident they will all be well received into our communities.
My wish for everyone in East Renfrewshire as this year draws to a close is for a happy and prosperous New Year.
