NOMINATIONS for the 2013 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service are now open to residents of East Renfrewshire.
East Ren council has issued a call for outstanding volunteers for the award scheme, recognised on a par with the MBE.
The Queen’s award recognises exceptional contributions made by groups to the benefit of their communities.
Guy Clark, lord-lieutenant of Renfrewshire, explained: “Volunteering groups in East Renfrewshire made a huge contribution to people’s lives, often without praise for the incredible job they do.
“If you know a group that fits the bill, get a form and nominate them”.
Backing the call for nominations is provost Alastair Carmichael, who added: “It is my pleasure to meet many of the individuals and groups carrying out sterling volunteer work across East Renfrewshire.
“While they do not do it for the recognition, this award is a real opportunity for each of us to say thank you to those in our area who give their time for the community”.
Nominations forms are available at www.direct.gov.uk/qavs, and are to be completed by September 30.
