THE women of Merrylea were making merry in Glasgow recently.
Glasgow’s newest choir, the Merrylea Merrymakers, describe themselves as Glasgow’s newest choir and they visited Sloan’s pub in the city centre’s Argyle Arcade to raise a few smiles among the clientelle and Christmas shoppers at the 18th century bar.
The women were raising funds for Music in Hospitals which supports musicians performing in hospitals, hospices, care homes, day centres and special needs’ schools.
The choir, which was only founded last September, has around 18 members from across Glasgow and was set up by Singing Fiddles voice and violins tutor, Jillian Leavey.
Jillian said: “I wanted to form a singing group comprised of women who may not have sung in the past, but share a great enthusiasm for music and singing.
“We perform a wide range of music from traditional to pop and show tunes.”
