POLICE have detained two men for questioning following the death of a Pollokshields man just yards from his front door.

William McKeeney (57) was walking home from a night out on Saturday, around 12.40am, when there was a disturbance.

The incident occurred on Melville Street, where Mr McKeeney — originally from Donegal in Ireland — lived with his partner.

Mr McKeeney was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Infirmary but passed away a short time later.

The two men have been detained in connection with the incident and Strathclyde police say no further information is available at this time.

Anyone with further information on the murder can contact investigating officers on 532 4900.

Meanwhile, officers in Eaglesham have recovered the body of a man from water on Holehouse Road.

The area was being searched following the disappearance of a Hamilton man, last seen leaving an Eaglesham newsagents on January 3.

Derek McInulty (48) had been working as a porter at the nearby Eglinton Arms hotel. His Suzuki Swift was found in the same body of water on Holehouse Road on January 12, following the stormy weather which battered the west coast of Scotland.

A police spokesman stated that a post mortem would be carried out to establish the cause of death, as well as forensic tests to confirm the man’s identity.
