Police are hunting four knife-armed thugs who beat up a man in Battlefield before fleeing in a BMW - later found ablaze at Linn Park Golf Club.

The drama unfolded at around 7pm on January 2, when the 37-year-old victim of the attack was set upon while in a Citroen Berlingo parked at Lochleven Road on Dundrennan Road.

He was treated at Glasgow Royal Infirmary for minor injuries and later released.

Half an hour later police were alerted to the BMW on fire, and discovered it had earlier been reported stolen from an address in Giffnock - and that it was carrying false plates.

Detective Sergeant Craig Warren said: “Extensive enquiries are continuing into this incident and officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and studying CCTV footage to identify the four men responsible.

“We believe that this was a targeted attack. This is a busy area and I would urge any witnesses to the incident, who have not yet spoken to officers to come forward as they may have vital information that will assist our investigation.

“I would also urge anyone who saw a grey coloured BMW 3 series being driven through the Battlefield or Linn Park areas to contact us”.
