Pub set ablaze

POLICE are searching for two men in connection with a fire at a southside pub.

Around 12.30am on Monday morning the Nia-Roo bar at 597 Nitshill Road was reported to be ablaze.

Emergency services attended and firefighters extinguished the fire.

Investigations now reveal the fire was started deliberately, although no one was injured.

Detectives are looking for two men said to be on the roof of the pub shortly before the fire was started.

They are described as both white and in their late teens or early 20s.

One was wearing dark clothing and the other was wearing white tracksuit bottoms and a dark top.

The suspects were last seen heading off in the direction the industrial estate, past Matalan, towards the Priesthill area.

Detective constable Alexander Ward from Pollok CID said: “Thankfully no one was injured as a result of this wilful fire raising.

“We are currently checking CCTV and carrying out extensive inquiries to trace the people responsible.

“I am keen to trace the two men who were seen by the public on the roof of the Nia-Roo shortly before the fire was started.

“I would also ask anyone who has any information on this fire to contact Pollok police office on 0141 532 5616.
