The NSPCC has welcomed the news that a music teacher has been jailed for offences against two young girls.

William Wright, 78, has been jailed for four years for sexually abusing the pupils during his time as a music teacher at an East Renfrewshire school.

An NSPCC Scotland spokesman said: “As a music teacher, Wright was in a position of trust but he abused this appallingly to carry out offences against two young girls.

“Abuse ruins childhoods and Wright’s actions will have devastated his victims’ lives into adulthood.

“This case shows again that it is never too late for survivors to come forward and seek justice as well as to receive the help and support they need.

“NSPCC Scotland works in schools and in the community to prevent abuse and neglect and anyone worried about a child can contact our helpline to report concerns.”

Any adult concerned about the welfare of a child or young person can call the NSPCC helpline for free, 24/7, on 0808 800 5000.
