POLICE have reported possible southside sightings of a man missing since last Thursday (September 12).

Daniel McSwiggan (69), who suffers from Alzheimers, went missing from Motherwell town centre last week, having gotten on a bus then gotten off again in Hamilton.

He was spotted at a BP garage, looking for details of a bus to Castlemilk, where he lives with his wife.

Yesterday (Wednesday), Police Scotland issued a statement urging southsiders to be extra vigilant, as two possible sightings had been reported.

The first was on Battlefield Road on Tuesday, around 12.45pm. The second sighting was on Pollokshaws Road, at 3.45pm, and the man in question was described as appearing confused.

The statement adds: “Daniel has been without his medication for five days, which may be causing this.”

Mr McSwiggan is described as 5ft7, slim and bald, with grey hair at the sides and a moustache. He was wearing a stone coloured jacket, grey trousers, a blue v-neck, blue shirt, black socks and black shoes.

Chief inspector Glen Bland, area commander for Motherwell and Wishaw, said that Mr McSwiggan is known to frequent Shawlands, as well as Parkhead, Rutherglen and Cambuslang. He added: “He has a bus pass with him, which allows unlimited travel.”

Residents and business owners are asked to check outbuildings and rear yards, and anyone with information can contact police on 101.
