Cleghorn Crossing has second worst safety record

SHOCKING statistics obtained under the Freedom of Information Act have revealed the Cleghorn Crossing near Lanark has the second worst safety record in the country.

Since 2009 there have been no less than 206 incidents there which could have resulted in fatalities.

However, the British Transport Police figures seem to point the finger of blame not at the crossing’s operation by Network Rail but on the DRIVERS crossing it and taking stupid and potentially tragic risks with their own lives, those of their passengers and scores of train travellers.

The official figures for offences committed on each of Scotland’s dozens of rail level crossings in the past five years shows Cleghorn second in a ‘league table’ of locations for offences noted and acted upon by the police; the 206 offences committed at Cleghorn since 2009 is only topped by Broughty Ferry’s tally of 214.
