Cleaning up the Clarkston community

Clarkston residents are invited to welcome in the warmer weather with a spring clean up.

The I Love Clarkston event takes place on Saturday (May 17), with groups working at 10am, noon and 2pm, leaving from the footbridge at Clarkston car park.

The Extra chatted to BID committee member Paul Darroch, of Darroch Hearing, this week on the subject of Making a Difference — the theme of this year’s Local Newspaper Week (running until May 18).

On the community clean up, Paul said: “You’ll be given a high vis vest and gloves etc, and as a thank you, we’ll also give you a small gift.

“There are various shifts going on, so people don’t have to come for an entire day — they can just do what they feel like doing.”

The BID representative added: “We’ve been doing all sorts of things, from Christmas lights, to hanging baskets, to cleaning up the local area.

“Most people are quite keen to be down on Clarkston and what we’re trying to do is turn that around.

“The businesses are really keen on promoting Clarkston as a place to come shopping.”
