A BUSBY woman received a much-needed boost in time for Christmas, thanks to the work of East Renfrewshire Good Causes.
ERGC – run by Newton Mearns man Russell Macmillan – was joined by volunteers from Scottish Water to decorate two rooms in a resident’s flat.
The resident in question is Mary Graham, who was forced to retire after years of working, due to a disability.
The charity had been contacted by councillor Alan Lafferty asking for help on Mary’s behalf, and Russell and his team dedicated £165 to materials for the job.
Russell told The Extra: “It was great to see a small amount of charity money making a big difference, being used to help facilitate a real team effort – it resulted in one of our neighbours knowing that the community cares about her.
“When your personal circumstances change due to a disability, it’s easy to think that the world doesn’t care.
“However, small projects like this can help show that a person is a valued member of their community, and I would like to thank all those involved”.
Mary added her thanks to the charity, calling it a “very worthwhile endeavour – there are so many in the community that can benefit”.
She added: “The team who came to my home went way past that extra mile – I can’t thank them enough for a project extremely well done”.
