A cast of 23 youngsters from Cartsbridge Evangelical Church opened their tour of original musical New Day at the Mitchell Theatre last weekend.

The production follows last year’s show An Act of Faith at Eastwood Park Theatre — and after its successful run, the team decided to step out their comfort zone and book nine nights across four venues in 2016.

In the show, Ryan, played by Cameron Russell (22), and Poppy, by Jen Hume (25), are challenged when their best friend Sarah, played by Beth Robertson (20), is diagnosed suddenly with an illness.

Ryan, an angry young man, struggles to understand why this could happen to his friend. Poppy, on a search for her own identity, doesn’t know how she can be there for her friend, but Sarah’s bravery surprises her friends and they question where she gets her strength.

Music director Ali Preston has arranged a variety of original and well-known songs, including Demons by Imagine Dragons, Just Dance by Lady Gaga.

If you haven’t yet managed along, there are seven more opportunities; at Eastwood Park Theatre (February 18-20), East Kilbride Village Theatre (February 26-27) and Motherwell Theatre (March 18-19).
