NEWTON Mearns motorists suffered delays on Tuesday as Strathclyde fire and rescue attended to a car on fire at Crookfur Road.
The incident was reported to the fire service at 2.39pm, and by 3.05pm one appliance had extinguished the blaze, while police attended to the build up of traffic.
Although the fire was small, eyewitness Laurence Whitby told The Extra that clouds of smoke made for a dramatic scene – and added concerns for a petrol tanker stopped in tailbacks nearby.

A spokesman for Strathclyde fire and rescue confirmed that the fire was contained within the private vehicle, and that no one was injured.
He added: “Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing”.
