Calum Campbell is NHS Lanarkshire’s new boss

He is currently chief executive of NHS Borders and prior to this was acting chief executive with ABM University NHS Trust in Wales.

Calum will take over from Ian Ross, NHS Lanarkshire’s current chief executive who is retiring in December following 45 years working for the NHS.

Neena Mahal, chair of NHS Lanarkshire said she was delighted that Calum had accepted the post.

“He has a wealth of experience in delivering high quality healthcare in Borders, and has a proven track record of strong leadership that made him the right choice for NHS Lanarkshire.”

“He has the drive, vision and leadership qualities required to help NHS Lanarkshire continue to innovate and deliver high quality care to the patients and communities we serve.”

Calum Campbell said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the organisation at this exciting and challenging time within the NHS.

“NHS Lanarkshire is the third largest healthcare system in Scotland, and as such has a huge contribution to make in delivering exceptional care and even better outcomes for patients.”

Calum was educated at Paisley University where he gained a BA Honours degree in Health Studies and at Glasgow Caledonia University where he received an MBA.

He started working with the NHS in Scotland in 1984, initially as a nurse, and then Health Visitor before moving into general management.

He was appointed Chief Executive at NHS Borders in 2010.

Calum is married with three children and in his early career combined his work in the NHS with professional football, playing for Airdrie, Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock.
