THE cream of local business crop descended on Barrhead on Thursday for the second annual East Renfrewshire business awards.
The glitzy East Renfrewshire chamber of commerce event was held at Dalmeny Park country house hotel, with the winners announced by writer and broadcaster Sally Magnusson and entertainment provided by Edward Reid, of Britain’s Got Talent fame.
In the retailer of the year category (under 10 employees), jeweller and goldsmith Kevan Scott came out on top, while retailer of the year (over 10 employees) was clinched by Barrhead Travel.
J&M Murdoch grabbed the family business award, and environmental advice firm Ideeas were presented with the home worker award.
Most promising new business went to Tailor Made Homecare Ltd, and the tourism prize was awarded to Uplawmoor Hotel.
Building company A.C Whyte and Co Ltd snatched the title of outstanding performing business, bringing a close to the night’s awards.
East Renfrewshire chamber of commerce thanked sponsors The Avenue shopping centre, East Renfrewshire council, A Place to Grow, Asda, Business Gateway, Gleniffer Estates and Manorview Hotels and Leisure Group.
East Ren provost Alastair Carmichael, who presented the outstanding performing business award, told The Extra: “Tonight has been a very successful night, and the winners of the various business awards have excelled themselves.
“I’m pleased that these things are happening in East Renfrewshire and it shows that East Ren is a place to grow.”
