The 20 strong team travelled from their base in Clarkston, by train and ferry, and finally got on their bikes to cycle 11 miles around the popular island of Millport.

Their goal was to get to the finish line while battling wind and rain to raise money for CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland) and When You Wish Upon a Star Scotland. It is hoped they will raise over £2,000 from their efforts.

A few members from The Lynnhurst Hotel in Johnstone, The Redhurst Hotel in Giffnock, and The Bowfield Hotel in Howwood also joined The Busby team on their cycle.

Manorview Hotels & Group’s managing director Steve Graham, and head of procurement Steve Buckley also cycled around Millport. The pair ran the London Marathon on April 22 and have already raised nearly £7,000 to be split between these two children’s charities.

Meanwhile the team were also boosted by professional cyclist Kyle Johnston. Kyle (21), from East Kilbride, joined them on the ride and gave a few tips on the day.

Last year Kyle was one of the four Pro Vision Team riders who broke two Scottish cycling records to be enrolled in the Scottish Cycling Hall of Fame. Both records were achieved in the Velodrome and in the 25-mile trial.

“With their support we will be in the wonderful position to grant the most magical wishes to our amazing, brave and inspirational children and their families who we work with in Scotland. A huge congrats to all of the Millport Cycle Team!”

Scott Maxwell, events co-ordinator from CHAS, said: “Currently, we provide vital care and support to one of the three families who lose a child each week in Scotland, but we want to be there for all of them.

“It is thanks to the wonderful efforts of the team from The Busby Hotel and the Manorview Group that will help us in this mission.

“Well done and thank you for taking on the brilliant Millport challenge”.
