Bosses day to help staff quit smoking

AS PART of its drive to persuade people to give up smoking, NHS is inviting employers along to a special event to inform them what they can do to help.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s smoking cessation and Health at Work teams will be there to offer advice on the various initiatives employers can utilise to assist employees who want to quit.

Bosses will also be offered the opportunity to participate in NHSGGS’s annual Quit and Win campaign – which begins on No Smoking Day (March 13) and runs for 12 weeks.

This is open to all workplaces in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area and every four weeks a prize draw is held for those taking part that successfully quit.

Maria Osuji, NHSGGC Health Improvement Practitioner, said: “For employers keen to support their staff to give up smoking and lead a healthier life, this event is a must.

“We will discuss how employers can get involved in No Smoking Day, how they can access free workplace smoking cessation sessions as well as other free services available for workplaces such as support to develop written tobacco policy.”

The free event is being held on Wednesday, January 16 at the Skills Academy, 99 Norfolk Street, Glasgow between 9.30am and noon.
