A LOCAL charity that helps people has been given a £5,000 cash boost.
East Renfrewshire Good Causes was chosen by Barclays Wealth as one of three Scottish charities to receive funding.
ERGC, Dress for Success and Cornerstone have all received a share of £18,000 from the bank so the charities can continue their valuable work across the country.
Bosses at Barclays were impressed by the work of ERGC founder Russell Macmillan who, after surviving a double transplant, decided to help others in need.
Malcolm Macallan, chairman of the Scotland communities’ committee said: “Barclays Wealth is committed to supporting local charities across Scotland that selflessly deliver much-needed help and support to those in need.
“ERGC relies heavily on donations and we are delighted to play our part and contribute towards its work and development of its services. The Barclays Wealth team wishes all three charities the best for 2011”.
One of Mr Macmillan’s customers at the pet shop he owns nominated the charity for the fund.
He explained: “It was a real surprise to learn we’d secured funding. I’d like to extend a massive thanks to Barclays.
“We can guarantee 100 per cent of the funding will be spent on good causes in the area”.
