Attempted robbery at bookies

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following the attempted robbery of a bookmakers’ shop on Nithsdale Road.

The suspect struck around 6pm on Sunday, June 10 armed with a blunt weapon and threatened a male member of staff.

He demanded money before attacking the 56-year-old who fought him off.

The robber then fled the Cathcart shop empty-handed.

DC Scott Brock said: “This was an extremely frightening attack which left a 56-year-old man needing hospital treatment.

“He has since been released, but is badly shaken by what happened.

“Nithsdale Road was very busy at the time, so I’m appealing for witnesses to come forward”.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 25 to 30 and slim.

He was wearing a red jacket with black shoulders, black trousers and white trainers and was carrying a black rucksack.
