Residents living near a Newton Mearns housing development have complained to the council over a builders disregard for their unbroken sleep.
Mactaggart & Mickel Homes are currently building in an area known as Castle Grove located off Woodfarm Road in the Mearns.
As part of their planning consents granted by East Ren Council, the developers are not allowed to commence work until 8am daily with further restrictions for weekend working.
One person who is being inconvenienced is Margaret Campbell whose Blair Atholl Crescent home backs onto the development has complained to both the builder and the council over their habit of starting as early as 7am.
Having recently retired, Margaret was hoping for the odd lie-in now. “It’s been horrendous, all we hear are lorry reversing beepers going off, power tools starting up, staff shouting, and doors clattering, so much for a quiet and peaceful long-lie in bed” she said.
A spokesperson for Mactaggart & Mickel Homes said: “We are aware of the planning conditions and are taking measures to ensure that any disturbance to local residents is at a minimum. We strive to maintain good relationships with our neighbours and apologise if any disruption has been caused. We have emphasised to our onsite team and subcontractors that works should only be conducted during the hours stipulated in the planning consent and will be monitoring this to ensure it is being adhered to.”
East Ren Council said: “We take complaints from residents very seriously. The last complaints received about work at the Castle Grove area was on June 30. On that same day we wrote to Mactaggart & Mickel to remind them of the restrictions they must adhere to when working on site.”
