VISITORS flocked to Queen’s Park recently to mark its 150th anniversary — and the opening of its brand new arena.
The inaugural event featured local music, dance and drama acts chosen to represent the communities surrounding the park — as well as showcasing southside talent.
The arena replaces the bandstand gutted by fire in 1996 after years of dilapidation. The regeneration project has been two years in the making, thanks to the work of four neighbouring community councils.
Speaking prior to the launch, Dr Evelyn Silber, chair of the streering group, explained: “The space will be an asset to the whole city of Glasgow — not just the southside.
“It will be unique, attracting touring companies and events to the city and enabling the area to take part in city-wide festivals”.
