A GANG is being sought by police after they caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a children’s playpark.

The vandals torched a climbing frame and a chute and tore up the soft surface of Barrhead’s Carlibar park around 2am on Monday, June 4.

East Renfrewshire council said repairs could be between £18,000 and £20,000 if all the damaged equipment is replaced as some of it has to be shipped in from Holland.

A council spokesman said it was not yet clear if all the damage would be replaced, but if it was set to be expensive.

He continued: “In total, including installation costs, the final bill would be in the region of £18,000 and £20,000”.
