Youth band KODA celebrates 25 years

OVER 170 people packed into Crawfordjohn Hall on Sunday to celebrate 25 years of youth orchestra KODA.

Formerly known as the Keith Dickson Accordion Orchestra, former and current band members enjoyed the celebrations in the hall, which was the venue for KODA’s first concert back in January 1988.

Bob and Mary Johnstone, who helped organise that concert, cut the celebratory cake and everyone enjoyed a great afternoon with a slideshow of memories from down the years.

Founder Keith said: “It was a fantastic day and it was great to see so many people there; when the band started I could never have imagined that it would still be going on after 25 years.

“It was great to be back in Crawfordjohn because our first concert was held here and a lot of work went into it back then.”

Currently KODA consists of 10 players, from the ages of 13 to 18, with the junior Kodetta section having 12 players in it from the age of eight up to 13.
