Spring surprise for the Brownies and Guides of Netherlee

Guides and Brownie Guides from Netherlee enjoyed a Spring Surprise weekend away at the Guiding facility in West Lothian, Netherurd House.

The facilities and the distance is far enough away for it to feel like a real adventure for the guiders but close enough should additional assistance be required.

The adventure started from the moment the guiders got on the bus at Netherlee Pavilion on the Friday and didn’t stop until they returned on the Sunday.

Activities over the weekend included nature walks, walking-the-wobbly-plank and rope climbing amongst other outdoor ones.

Inside, it was pizza making on the Saturday night with the guiders giving many a professional pizza outlet a run for their money.

Commenting on the weekend and volunteering in general Jane Cowan, leader in charge, said: “When I woke up on the Saturday morning and I saw the snow I thought oh no, then I heard the guiders shout ‘they’ve even arranged for it to snow for us’.

“It is all those times when you are reminded that memories are made from fun and adventure outside of the normal routine.

“For some of the younger guiders it was their first time away from home, for others, they had never shared a dormitory; so all these life skills are being experienced.”

Jane added: “My Going Away Team’ were super, I have always been very lucky with my teams as we put the guiders first by working together”.

Jane, who runs 3rd Netherlee Brownies in the Netherlee Scout Hall on Thursday evenings is looking for adult assistants. If you would like to try an evening with her to see what is involved then she would be delighted to welcome you. Contact her at [email protected] quoting ‘Tester Thursdays’.
