Pic of the Week: Praying Mantis by Mary Robertson

This image was taken while on holiday in Sardinia. I spotted the mantis hiding in the shade on a pretty yellow bush.

I’m not usually too fond of insects and I’m not usually quick enough to photograph them before they fly off.

However I liked the iconic praying mantis shape framed against the background of the yellow shrub and this mantis very obligingly stayed still long enough to let me get a couple of shots.

The image was taken with a Panasonic G3 at f5.8, 1/200, ISO 800 and 140mm (280 35mm equivalent).
