IT’S been a good few years since she last appeared in the hit BBC soap, EastEnders, but now after mixed fortunes Gillian Taylforth is back on stage.
The actress who played Kathy Beale for 15 years is teaming up with real-life sister, Kim Taylforth, to appear in the popular musical comedy, Girls Night.
Kim trained at the Anna Scher Theatre in London and made her professional debut in the BBC comedy series Steptoe and Son at the age of 15.
Other TV roles have included The Knowledge, London’s Burning, Brookside and Bad Girls.
Kiim said: “We’ve done TV together, but never as sisters and never on the same stage together.
“We are both so excited and can’t wait for it all to start”.
The story tells of lifelong friends who have a wild night out together at a karaoke club.
They ponder on the past, laugh, cry and belt out those well-worn girls hits I Will Survive, It’s Raining Men and Dancing Queen.
The sisters will be joined by Casualty’s Rebecca Wheatly who, since appearing as receptionist Amy, has shed an amazing 12 stones in weight and been crowned Slimmer of the Year by Slimming World.
The show’s writer, Louise Roche, thinks the cast is the perfect for for her target audience – “women of all ages looking for a good time”.
Louise continued: “Gillian, Kim and Rebecca are actresses we’ve all grown up relating to on television and I for one can’t wait to see them all live on stage.
“It’s going to be a riot”.
All three actresses are looking forward to having fun together on stage, with Gillian remarking: “If you’re looking for a fantastic night out then come along and watch Girls Night.
“It’s a great, fun evening of singing, dancing and laughter with the girls that will have you joining in right from the start”.
Girls Night is on at the King’s Theatre from Tuesday, April 10 until Saturday, April 14.
Tickets are between £11 and £26 but check the website for start times as they vary.
