And the beat(box) goes on . . .

BEATBOXING may sound like a party trick — but in the hands of cult favourite Beardyman, the word takes on a whole new meaning.

The double UK beatbox champion famed for his live shows and YouTube videos arrives at the Arches this week.

Expect mash-ups of well-known tracks spanning the worlds of pop, dance, reggae and whatever else he fancies.

Beardyman has gained something of a cult following – and it’s little wonder for a man who named his first release, in 2012, I Done A Album, and who uses his own production system, the Beardytron 5000 MKII (which he put together because he didn’t like the gear available elsewhere).

There’s a heavy dose of comedy to the musical maestro, which proves a big draw during festival appearances and gigs — but perhaps more impressive than his inventiveness is the sheer talent underneath it all.

Beardyman is on at the Arches on Wednesday (May 8). Tickets £13.50 from 565 1000.
