Two local schoolchildren have been selected by Kirsten Oswald MP and Jackson Carlaw MSP as winners of their Christmas card competition.
Kirsten’s winner is Milena Kriz, P6b, St Cadoc’s Primary School in Newton Mearns. Milena’s winning design was chosen from more than 300 entries with five runners-up chosen from across East Renfrewshire.
Meanwhile, Jackson’s winning entry was announced as Beth MacDougall of Kirkhill Primary School.
Beth was presented with her award by Jackson, Jamie Wishart (Store Manager of Waitrose, Newton Mearns) and Donna Menzies (Waitrose Community Outreach) who kindly sponsored the award.
Beth’s design will be on the front of Jackson Carlaw’s Christmas card with the designs of the eight runners up appearing on the back of it.
Commenting on the awards Jackson said: “Thanks to all the local schools and their pupils who took the time to enter into my Christmas Card Competition – there was glitter all over the office as the hundreds of entries poured in.
“All of the designs were first class and it was really hard to pick a winner.
“Well done however must go to Beth on her design which scooped first prize.
Congratulating Milena, Kirsten said: “It was wonderful to receive more than 300 entries for my first Christmas card competition.
“The quality of the entries and especially the winning designs have been a real advert for the artistic talent in East Renfrewshire.
“Milena’s fantastic design has brought a smile to the face to everyone who has seen it and I look forward to sending her lovely picture all over Scotland and beyond.
“It was extremely hard to pick a winner and runners up from all the amazing Christmas artwork I received and I want to thank the children and schools for their participation and enthusiasm.”
