The Avenue supports accessible shopping day

The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns will be supporting Purple Tuesday, November 12 – the UK’s accessible shopping day.

Nearly one in every five people in the UK has a disability or impairment, with 80% of those having ‘invisible’ or hidden impairments. In addition, over half of households have a connection to someone with a disability.

The aim of Purple Tuesday is to make customer-facing businesses more aware of the opportunities and challenges and inspire them to make changes to improve the disabled customer experience over the long term.

Michelle McCabe, Centre Manager at The Avenue said: “We are proud The Avenue is able to support this initiative again this year on Tuesday 12th November.

“The accessibility to our centre and stores within the mall is extremely important to us and we have made incremental changes over the years including our daily Quiet Hour and introduction of ‘not every disability is visible’ signage.”

“In the run up to Purple Tuesday, we have provided our staff with further information to improve the customer service we offer to those with accessibility issues. We will also be turning off our mall music all day on Tuesday 12th November to allow those with sensory issues to enjoy a more relaxed shopping experience at The Avenue.”
